What is the PTO?

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a dedicated group of parents who, in a collaborative spirit with teachers, work to enhance all aspects of educational life at Shaftsbury Elementary School.

In the recent 2016 - 2017 school year, the PTO contributed to the enrichment of our students’ educational experience by funding the following:
  • Monies to expand the SES Music Program
  • Books & monies to the Shaftsbury School Library
  • Funding for field trips
  • Special T-shirts for 6th grade graduates
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
  • Books for each classroom
  • Chris Poulos Educate, Motivate, Captivate School Wide Assembly
  • Saakumu Dance Troupe School Wide Performance

In addition, the PTO maintains tradition by continuing free annual events for students and their parents such as: movie nights at SES, muffins to celebrate mother figures, doughnuts to celebrate dad figures, and game nights at SES.

In support of these enrichments to student/teacher life, fundraising is integral to the PTO’s agenda. Students enjoy the school store, dances, and the holiday shoppe. Also, our largest event is the popular end-of-year community carnival, Big Truck Night Carnival, with food, games, and prizes.

Volunteering can be a thankless job on the surface however, the impact you can make will be remembered for generations. Whether you have a moment to share an idea or hours to volunteer your time, we encourage you to take the first step by attending our monthly meetings or contacting one of us directly.

We invite you take a look at the list of proposed events for the 2017-2018 school year and join us for some fun!

Sincerely,
The Shaftsbury Parent Teacher Organization
