Do you have a love of literacy? 
Do you value the importance of reading?
Do you have time for just FOUR meetings a year?

The Mary Monroe Hawkins Library Association is looking for some new members! This committee usually meets on the first Wednesday of October, January, March and May, at 3:30 in the Shaftsbury Elementary library.

About Us

The Mary Monroe Hawkins Library Association was founded in 1949 for the purpose of using the income of the MARY MONROE HAWKINS MEMORIAL LIBRARY FUND to promote recreational and supplementary reading materials for said library located at Shaftsbury Elementary School. The original association constitution was revised in 1958, 1961, 1973, 1980, twice in 2011. In 2013, the MMH Library Association was incorporated to become the Mary Monroe Hawkins Library Association, Inc.

Members and Board of Directors

  • Membership of the Association shall consist of any person interested in the promotion of the Library. Any interested party can apply to be a member of the association.
  • The MMH Library Association, Inc. Board of Directors manages the business and affairs of the corporation. The Board of Directors of the corporation shall consist of eleven members, one of whom shall be the principal of the Shaftsbury Elementary School who shall serve without voting authority, one of whom shall be the librarian of the Shaftsbury Elementary School, and two of whom shall be teachers at the Shaftsbury Elementary School. Officers on the Board of Directors are elected for two year terms at the annual business meeting in October. Directors must be residents of the Town of Shaftsbury, Vermont and must be members of the corporation at the time of their election.
